There are so many reasons to seek psychotherapy: You may wish to increase self-awareness around relationships or to address long-standing difficult emotions, negative patterns, existential angst, “stuckness,” areas of self-sabotage, family conflicts, difficulties at work, or perhaps a negative event that’s impairing daily engagement with life.

In all cases, developing a trusting therapeutic relationship provides the foundation for helping you. I believe it is the relationship that heals. Outcome research in psychotherapy has concluded that independent of approach, it is the strength of the therapeutic alliance that best predicts positive outcome.

The theoretical underpinnings of my work stem from what most resonates with me. My approach is interpersonal, both existentially and psychodynamically informed. Over many years, I have been fortunate to work closely with Dr. Irvin Yalom, and he has been profoundly influential in my approach.

Approach

My work is patient-centered. I conceptualize treatment, drawing from multiple orientations, including:

  • Interpersonal
  • Psychoanalytic
  • Psychodynamic
  • Relational
  • Existential/humanistic
  • Family/marital and conflict resolution
  • Although my orientation is not CBT, as needed, I employ CBT and coaching interventions.
