I imagine it’s a bit daunting to select a new therapist, so I’ll try to give you a sense of who I am and how I work.

First, I’m honored to do the work I do; and I feel very fortunate that a part of doing my job well means I get to be genuine all day, every day. It’s by fully bringing myself to my work that I can be most helpful. Together, we will create a relationship in which you can feel safe, recognized, and free to discover and express what may generally be hidden, and yet important. As we get to know each other, I’ll do my best to help you feel at ease, so that you can feel free to share what comes to mind without feeling judged.

You’ll find it is my nature to maintain curiosity, be open to new perspectives, and learn from others’ experiences. Throughout our work, I will encourage and respect your inner knowledge and help you put it into words I will always value your take on any ideas I may have; if they don’t resonate with you, I have no ego investment in imposing my ideas. Our work will be collaborative.

I am a skilled and empathic listener. I will seek to understand what you’re going through and concurrently feel how it may resonate with some part of myself; I believe this contributes to my ability to connect and understand. It is also why it is essential that I have insight into my own inner life.

I believe in the process of therapy, bumpy parts and all. I will join in the journey without fear, formulas, or judgment. I will be deeply attentive to what you communicate directly and not. Together, we will notice and explore underlying patterns and themes, including how they may enter our own relationship.

Part of the journey may be discovering irrational, or camouflaged, parts of the psyche—I believe they’re part of what makes us human. I will listen carefully so as to possibly introduce new perspectives and open new dimensions of understanding. It can be difficult to part with established views, narratives, and ways of being, even when they are interfering with moving forward in a healthier way. This is work we can do together to help you create a more fulfilling sense of your life.

If it is an overwhelming event that precipitates the need for help, we will initially focus on helping you regain your balance and sense of self so you can reengage with life and move forward.

Whatever your impetus to seek therapy, I will value you as a multifaceted individual and be genuinely engaged and respectful.
